Building Bridges that can Take the Weight

After learning about trusses, beams, and structural design, students created their own model bridges. They then placed each bridge into a “bridge crusher” tool to measure how much weight it could hold before breaking.

The activity helped students see how design choices affect strength, stability, and performance. It was a hands-on way to connect classroom lessons to real-world engineering.

Saugerties High School students took the courtroom floor for their latest Mock Trial competition, presenting the case People vs. A. Carmen Erickson & Carson Blocker. The case centered on the alleged theft of used cooking oil, and our students worked hard to build strong arguments, question witnesses, and think on their feet.
