Saugerties High School Counselor Honored as NYSSCA’s 2025 School Counselor of the Year

Dr. Catalano is known for guiding students with care and purpose, creating opportunities that help them grow as learners and as members of the community. His long partnership with Habitat for Humanity has opened the door for students to take part in service-learning that builds empathy, develops real-world skills, and deepens their understanding of housing insecurity.

He also leads an annual motorcycle ride that raises support for families experiencing homelessness in our district. This event has become a meaningful way for the community to come together and take action for neighbors in need.

“Dr. Catalano leads with compassion, vision, and unwavering dedication to students and families,” said Dr. Lisajane Kappler, Director of Pupil Personnel Services. “This recognition is well deserved.”

We congratulate Dr. Catalano and thank him for the steady, positive impact he has on the lives of students, families, and the wider Saugerties community.

The group included teachers, teaching assistants, secretary, monitor, social worker, and the District Treasurer, each of whom has made a meaningful difference in the lives of students across the district.

Even in Retirement, Students Remain their Top Priority

Check out this generous show of support from the Saugerties Schools Retired Employees Association (SSREA)! At their June 2 general meeting and luncheon, members collected food and other essential items for the Saugerties SCORE Store, a free resource that helps support members of our school community.
